This Intermec PM43 Review reveals it is a mid-range industrial printer that is the third generation of the rugged PM series.
The Intermec PM43 has a sleek yet rugged design that makes it ideal for a warehouse and manufacturing environment. It has a strong all metal construction that protects it from knocks and the media door has an innovative latch system that ensures the media is protected.
One design feature that we really enjoyed was the colour touch screen – which is tamper proof – and keypad. This display was a huge improvement on previous models and the keypad comes with a huge blue label feed button, making it impossible to miss.
The Intermec PM43 is fully equipped with all ports which means it can work in just about any environment. It comes with the typical serial, parallel and USB options as well an Ethernet port. It is important to note that only the serial and Ethernet are standard, the other connectivity options are optional, along with wireless.
The PM43 operates at a speed of 12 ips, which is a great speed that can be an advantage to companies that have a high production turnover. It has the capacity to print between 2,000 and 7,000 labels per day.
This printer is one of the easiest to work on in relation to media loading. It can be done from the side, as opposed to having to feed all the way through. Loading the ribbon is easy as well as Intermec have an empty core to fix the new ribbon onto the take up spool.
The way in which the printhead is accessed makes changing it a lot easier than other printer manufacturers. The opening lever is easy to see and to use, and the printhead is pivoted to keep consistent pressure on the label. The printhead itself is also simple to remove and install.
In our opinionwhile the Intermec PM43 printer is good; it does not live up to its Zebra counterpart the ZT410. In saying that there are some things that we do quite like about this printer though, such as:
· The design which is sleek yet industrial and rugged, like it could take a good beating in a harsh environment;
· How easy it was to load the media;
· The colour touch screen interface and the large keypad;
· How quick and easy it was to change a printhead.
If a customer was new to barcode label printing we would be slow to recommend the Intermec PM43 over a Zebra machine. Zebra printers are much easier to install and much more user friendly in our opinion.
If dealing with a customer that has used Intermec’s in the past we would recommend the Intermec PM43 to them as they would have a familiarity with the brand and would have a better grasp on how it operates.
The Intermec PM43 would work in the below industries:
